CURRICULUM VITAE

Norbert WASZEK (born in 1953) grew up in the Lower Rhine town of Krefeld. He studied philosophy, history, social and political thought at the Universities of Bochum/Germany (M.A. 1978), Edinburgh, Stirling (M.Litt. 1980) and Cambridge (Christ's College, Ph.D. 1984).

He won scholarships and research fellowships of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the British Council, Christ's College, the German Research Association (DFG), the Fritz-Thyssen-Foundation and the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme (Paris).

He was Visiting Lecturer in Philosophy, University of Auckland, New Zealand; Lecturer (Akademischer Rat) at the University of Erlangen/Germany; Lecturer, then Senior Lecturer at the University of Paris VIII (1993-1999).

Professorial thesis ('Habilitation') at the Sorbonne (Paris I), 1998.

1999-2003 : Professor of German civilisation and the history of ideas at the University of Upper Normandy, Rouen.

Since september 2003 he is Professor of German at the University of Paris VIII (Saint-Denis).
